Machete Movie Premiere

When I was asked to photograph the movie premier for the new Robert Rodriguez movie, "Machete" I jumped at the opportunity. To promote the new movie a collection of Los Angeles' finest lowriders would parade the movie stars through Downtown LA to the historical Orpheum theatre for the red carpet premiere. Never shooting something like this before I didn't know what to expect and armed with my trusty Canon 7D and 580EX II flash I was able to play paparazzi. Arriving early to the location I was set-up my equipment and made my way to the area where the 20 lowriders awaited. Machete teamed up with the Knockout Taco truck and Mister Cartoon of SA Studios, who designed the new graphics for the food truck and fed all of the VIP guests in the lot. First to the scene was director Robert Rodriguez who was very mellow and down to earth. He met with the lowrider owners, signed autographs for the fans in line, and took few pictures. This was great to see someone on their big day giving back to the fans. The star of the movie Danny Trejo made his appearance in full Machete attire and lead the procession of lowriders on his motorcycle. Other stars Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, and of course the gorgeous Jessica Alba showed up and jumped into their vehicles on the way to the red carpet. The movie itself was great and typical B-movie style and packed with action, gore, and comedy. Shooting alongside the other photographers to get this shot had my adrenaline going full speed. There's little time and even less space to move around and get the shots you need. Luckily I was able to work with my friend Larry Chen to make sure the camera settings were in order.
