Each year Formula DRIFT holds a press conference at the SEMA tradeshow to a group of over 200 media, industry members and drivers from the Series. Major announcements were unveiled for the 2013 season of competition, which is also the 10 year anniversary for the Series. This included the addition of Dallas to the seven event nationwide tour, the new car manufacturer championship and tire manufacturer championship. In addition, NBC Sports will air 30 episodes over 32 weeks beginning in June of 2013 and to kick-off the season there will be a $25,000 Super Drift Challenge held during the Long Beach Grand Prix weekend.
President and co-founder, Jim Liaw was also nominated for the inaugural SEMA Gen-3 innovator award for his commitment to the industry. I’m excited for the upcoming year of competition, but for now will enjoy the off-season.
